Who doesn't love the Volkswagen Bug? The VW beetle is undoubtedly the most iconic shape in the world,
right up there with the pinched-waist Coca Cola bottle. It seems like everyone you meet has a
fond memory of their family's classic VW bug, or the neighbor's vintage beetle. On this page we have
some great images of beautifully restored or lovingly preserved Volkswagen bugs - the so called
"big window" bugs offered from 1958 on up. These classic beetles were pretty similar from model years
1958 through 1964, although if you're looking for a canvas sunroof model, stick with the pre-1964 models
because starting with the 1964 bugs the sunroof was a sliding metal panel. In 1965, Volkswagen made big changes in the beetle body and the door post became narrower and the glass all around was
taller - giving a "fresher" more open view for the occupants. Big changes came again for model year
1966 when the standard VW bug now came with a defroster vent in the center of the dash, and a new
1300cc engine replaced the old 1200cc. Finally; for the 1967 models, VW bumped the motor to 1500cc, introduced sealed beam headlights and new engine lid, front hood and front fender
sheet metal. The 1958 - 1967 Volkswagen Bug is a true classic, so check out some of the beautiful
examples below.
