The classic Volkswagen Type-II bus came in the popular Microbus and Kombi configurations,
but the ultimate VW transporter bus then and now, has always been the Deluxe bus. With its upgraded upholstery,
electric dashboard clock, 2-tone paint schemes and polished aluminum deluxe moulding, the Volkswagen Deluxe
bus was a very classy way to transport your family and friends around town. Most Deluxe buses came
with the "Samba" option which added a folding sunroof and 8 curved skylight windows to the roof, but a large
percentage of Deluxe buses were "hardtop" models that were ordered without the Samba option.
Up through model year 1963 the Samba Deluxe bus was a "23 Window" bus and the hardtop Deluxe was a "15 Window" bus. Starting in 1964, Volkswagen dropped the classic curved corner windows on the Deluxe bus body,
so the Deluxe Samba became a "21 Window" bus and the Deluxe hardtop became a "13 Window" bus.
